Built in complexity. Trained in decision.

Elina Tongieva is an executive decision coach based in Zurich, Switzerland, working with executives and senior leaders worldwide. She did not arrive at this work through a coaching school first — she arrived through a decade of decisions with consequences attached.

01

Systems came before leadership

Her first training was scientific, not managerial: a degree in bioengineering from Lomonosov Moscow State University, graduating with highest honours and completing the Master’s degree at 23.

Bioengineering is the study of systems that fail in ways that are not obvious. You learn to think in precision and in cause–effect chains — to keep asking which variable actually moved the outcome, rather than which one felt most important. That habit never left, and it is the spine of everything that follows.

02

Ten years inside high-stakes systems

She entered Merck & Co early in her career and advanced quickly. Within three months she was already onboarding and training new hires — absorbing complexity faster than expected, then translating it into something other people could act on. That translation step turned out to be the actual skill.

By 26 she stepped into a Team Lead role, managing people, processes, and performance in a data-driven environment where decisions carry real consequences — over 10 years in high-stakes systems in total.

In an environment like that, conviction is not evidence. A decision has to survive being written down and read back by someone who was not in the room — a very different discipline from being persuasive in the meeting.

03

The move into coaching

What she kept encountering inside those systems was not a shortage of intelligence or effort. It was leaders carrying consequential decisions with no structured place to think them through — and paying for it in delay, in second-guessing, and in decisions that quietly got renegotiated after they were made.

She opened the practice in April 2025 and ran it alongside her corporate role until June 2026, when she left to coach full time. Her coaching qualification is a certification from Erickson Coaching International.

Today she works with executives who don’t need motivation. They need clarity, precision, and decisions they can stand behind.

04

The method: system awareness

The approach integrates structured thinking, behavioural insight, and what she calls system awareness — the ability to identify exactly where something breaks down and fix it at the root, rather than managing the symptom that surfaced first.

This is not traditional coaching. It is a structured, high-level intervention into how you think, decide, and lead. The work locates the break — in decision-making, in leadership behaviour, or in internal alignment — and rebuilds that part with precision. The result: faster decisions, restored balance, and leadership you can rely on under pressure.
